Officials reported that an explosion in the Pyrenees killed at least seven inpiduals, including two children, according to ITV.
A huge noise was heard about 1.30 a.m. on Monday, followed by a fire at a property in Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque.
As the property's floors fell, one man jumped from an upstairs window to escape the fire.
Over 20 people were evacuated from the structure, which is now in danger of collapsing owing to the damage.
Gerald Darmanin, the interior minister, said on Twitter that he would be delaying his trip to Montpellier to attend the location of the event.
Darmanin tweeted, "Thoughts to the victims and their loved ones."
The explosion is believed to have occurred on the bottom floor, which houses a grocery store and a sandwich shop.
