Antoine Al-Mughni, head of the Lebanese Syndicate of Goldsmiths and Jewelers, said that the gold sector remains steadfast despite the economic crises that plague Lebanon, especially that it is one of the country's sources of foreign currency.

Commenting on the recent news on Zoughaib's selling of fake diamonds to his Lebanese clients and a number of Arab celebrities, Al-Mughni said that these are mere rumors aimed at harming the country's tourist season, which is considered the only way out for reviving the national economy in light of the difficult circumstances facing Lebanon.

In exclusive statements to SEE News website, he said that syndicate opened probe into the news reported by a page on Facebook and Instagram called “secret Lebanon", regarding the escape of Michel Zoughaib, owner of the world-renowned Zoughaib & Co. Jewelry, after he was involved in selling glass-encrusted jewelry instead of diamonds.

He explained that these rumors were systematically promoted with the aim of discrediting two members of the syndicate, explaining that they are completely untrue, especially that the page has been deleted after publishing such fake news.

He pointed out that Zoughaib is in Lebanon and all news on his escape to Australia is baseless, adding that no lawsuits were filed against him over selling fake jewelry in the market.

Al-Mughni pointed out that the Syndicate supports Zoughaib to legally obtain his right from all those involved in circulating such fake news.

He added, "The Syndicate calls upon Lebanese and foreign clients not to be misled by rumors that only aim at fueling the state of turmoil in the Lebanese markets."
