This morning, the Public Prosecution managed to arrest the three perpetrators, including driver of the car used in mugging and killing Maryam, known as “the Maadi Girl”, thanks to surveillance cameras.
Security sources revealed that the three people, Muhammad Abdul Aziz Muhammad Amin, Walid Abdel-Rahman Fikry Abdel-Rahman, and Muhammad Osama Muhammad Jalal, are relatives who were parolees with previous dangerous records.
A legal source confirmed that the incident is a number of inseparable related crimes which must apply the most severe punishment according to Article 32 of the Penal Code.
“Attempted kidnapping and armed robbery are punished according to the provisions of Articles 290 and 314 of the Penal Code,” Lawyer Ashraf Naji said. “The penalty shall be increased so that they become an example to others.”
A short while ago, Omar Mohamed, brother of the victim announced that his sister’s funeral will take place in the ‘Al-Sayeda Nafisa Mosque’, then she will be buried in the family cemetery in ‘Belbeis.’
Maryam was killed in the Maadi area, south of Cairo, on Tuesday, as investigations revealed that the victim was walking on the street, and two unknown persons in a car tried to grab her handbag as a form of sexual harassment, so the girl fell to the ground and died after being run over.
The family of the victim, 24-year-old, a victim of a run-off accident, said that their daughter was about to get married noting that she was working in a bank.
The accident has been the talk of social media as many showed sympathy towards the victim adding hashtag “Maadi Girl”.
Celebrities also expressed their joy after hearing the news of arresting the three perpetrators.
“ The perpetrators caught in the grip of justice in less than 24 hours,” Egyptian actor Mohamed Henedy said on Twitter. “They shall remain an example for everyone who thinks the same.”
