Germany, Italy, France, and the United Kingdom issued a joint statement stressing the need for Israel to abide by international law, particularly regarding the protection of Palestinian civilians in the occupied territories.
The statement affirmed that the four countries are following developments on the ground with grave concern, calling on Israel to take all necessary measures to prevent further casualties and ensure respect for the principles of international humanitarian law.
The European capitals called for a reduction in tensions and the creation of a suitable environment for de-escalation efforts, noting that the protection of civilians is a legal and moral responsibility that cannot be ignored.
