The European Commission (EC) confirmed that two-thirds of the European Union's territory is at risk due to climate change.
The EC and the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, adopted a new comprehensive strategy to deal with the threats that climate change and environmental degradation could pose to the areas of peace, security, and defense.
And a press release published by the European Commission on its official website linked climatic phenomena to rising temperatures and sea levels, desertification, water scarcity, threats to biodiversity, and environmental pollution.
The statement warns that pollution, in general, threatens the health and well-being of humanity and could lead to further displacement, migration movements, and the spread of epidemics, social unrest, instability, and even conflict.
