European statements opposing U.S. President Donald Trump's calls regarding military maneuvers in the Strait of Hormuz have intensified.
The French Minister of State for the Armed Forces emphasized that NATO’s primary objective is the security of Europe and the Atlantic, not conducting military operations outside this framework or in violation of international law.
The French Minister further stressed that utilizing NATO for military operations in the Strait of Hormuz would constitute a departure from the Alliance's core objectives.
She also reaffirmed European nations' commitment to the alliance’s defensive nature and their rejection of any steps that might lead to further escalation in the region.
These remarks reflect a widening rift between the United States and several European allies amid rising tensions over strategic maritime corridors and international fears of an expanding conflict.
In response, Trump launched a scathing attack against NATO members—specifically the United Kingdom and France—hinting at a possible U.S. withdrawal from the Alliance.
