Today marks a significant milestone in Egypt's journey towards fostering a dynamic, independent, and impactful civil society; the launch of the Civil Society Support Fund signifies the renewal of a vital partnership between the Egyptian state, civil society organizations (CSOs), and international partners.
The European Union supports the development of the Civil Society Fund through its Equal Opportunities and Social Development Project.
The challenges faced by communities are complex, and civil society must be equipped to respond to their evolving needs. The Civil Society Support Fund has the potential to become a true cornerstone of that response.” EU Ambassador to Egypt Angelina Eichhorst said at the launch ceremony.
She added, “We are proud to have supported the development of the Civil Society Fund through our Equal Opportunities and Social Development Project. The challenges faced by communities are complex and evolving, and civil society must be equipped and supported to respond to their needs. The Civil Society Support Fund has the potential to become a true cornerstone of that response,".
The EU has been a steadfast supporter of the Fund’s re-establishment, reinforcing its capacity to deliver with efficiency and impact. “The European Union firmly believes that a vibrant, independent, and empowered civil society is fundamental to sustainable development. Civil society is not merely a beneficiary of policy; it is a vital contributor to innovation, accountability, and social resilience.” Eichhorst said.
The EU also works with the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to strengthen the societal participation of young people—especially young women and persons with disabilities—by building capacities of state actors, empowering youth as agents of change, and raising public awareness on disability inclusion.
