EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, emphasized that the reopening of the Rafah border crossing is a tangible and positive step within efforts to support the peace process and solidify the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
In a post on the "X" platform, EU official stated that the European Union Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) is present on the ground to monitor transit operations and provide support to the Palestinian Border Guard.
Kallas described the reopening as a "lifeline" for the sick and wounded in Gaza, as it allows for family reunifications after long periods of separation.
Moreover, she noted that such practical steps contribute to advancing the truce plan and must be sustained.
At the same time, she stressed that the Gaza Strip remains in desperate need of humanitarian aid, asserting that reconstruction efforts are linked to the disarmament of Hamas.
