The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that Egypt succeeded in passing the Corona pandemic, especially after the Egyptian government took several decisive economic measures.
She added, in an interview with Al-“Masry Al-Youm, an Egyptian daily newspaper, that the commission intends to expand the scope of cooperation with Egypt in the fields of energy and climate.
She indicated that the European Union (EU) fully supports Egypt before the annual United Nations conference on climate change is held in Sharm El-Sheikh next November.
She said that the EU has allocated 225 million Euros to meet the needs of our partners in the southern neighborhood in the short and medium term.
von der Leyen stressed that Egypt will receive the largest share of this funding, equivalent to 100 million Euros, which will help Egypt increase its capacity to store grain and support Egyptian farmers.
