The European Commission has announced a €76 million ($79.4 million) humanitarian aid package to support Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh and communities affected by ongoing conflict in Myanmar.
According to an official statement, €32.3 million will be allocated to assist Rohingya refugees living in Bangladesh.
The funds will be used to provide food aid, healthcare, education, clean water, sanitation, and camp maintenance.
Crisis Management Commissioner Hadja Lahbib reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting Rohingya refugees, stating that the EU stands firmly with the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, just as we have for the past seven years.
During a visit to refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, Lahbib emphasized that with the conflict in Myanmar’s Rakhine State and other regions ongoing, a safe and dignified return for the Rohingya remains out of reach.
The EU has also allocated €33 million to assist people affected by the conflict in Myanmar. This funding will support food assistance, shelter, access to clean water, healthcare, education, mine risk awareness, and aid for landmine victims.
