Mauritania and the European Union (EU) have signed an agreement granting Mauritania a significant financial aid package of €5.1 million.
The agreement was officially signed in Nouakchott by Mauritania's Minister of Justice, Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Bneijara, and the Vice President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas.
During the meeting, which was attended by ministers responsible for defense, interior affairs, and the economy, both parties discussed a range of mutual interests.
Among the topics of discussion were matters related to illegal migration, an issue of significant concern for both Mauritania and the EU.
Following the discussions, Schinas, in a press statement in Nouakchott, revealed the EU's intention to establish an international alliance to combat illegal migration, which has tragically resulted in numerous deaths in the Mediterranean Sea.
This initiative underscores the EU's commitment to addressing this pressing issue on a global scale.
Schinas emphasized the EU's desire to invest in Mauritania and strengthen cooperation across various sectors, including digital, land, and maritime transportation, as well as security.
The EU is dedicated to supporting Mauritania in these areas and fostering a strong partnership between the two regions.
