The European Union’s top diplomat has signaled "full solidarity" with Arab nations following a series of Iranian attacks on the sovereignty of several states in the region, the Arab League said Sunday.
In a phone call to Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Kaja Kallas, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, delivered a message of "strong and unequivocal condemnation" regarding the recent Iranian escalations.
The diplomatic outreach coincided with an extraordinary ministerial-level session held by the Council of the League of Arab States via videoconference on March 8. The session was convened specifically to address what the League described as Iranian attacks on the "territorial integrity" of multiple Arab countries.
According to Gamal Roshdy, spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Kallas emphasized the necessity of pursuing diplomatic solutions to prevent further instability.
The European message also highlighted ongoing efforts by the EU to urge restraint from other major actors in the region. Roshdy noted that Kallas referred to European diplomatic pressure being applied to both the United States and Israel to "exercise restraint" as the crisis unfolds.
The high-level exchange underscores growing international concern over the "unjustified assaults" and their potential to trigger a broader regional conflict.
