The European Union has taken a decision to extend its economic sanctions against Russia over its military operation in Ukraine for another six months.
The Council of the European Union (EU) announced today, Tuesday, in a statement that it decided to extend the restrictive measures targeting specific sectors of the Russian Federation's economy for a period of six months, until January 31, 2023.
On July 22, the Council of the EU approved the seventh package of European sanctions against Russia, including a partial embargo on gold, and the blacklisting of 55 inpiduals and legal entities.
On its part, the Russian government noted that it expanded the list of unfriendly countries to include Greece, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Croatia.
The statement added that the list adopted by the government is not final, and can be expanded based on the hostile practices of foreign governments against Russian missions abroad.
The EU, after Russia launched its own military operation in Ukraine, on February 24, imposed seven packages of sanctions on Russia.
