The European Union’s special envoy for non-proliferation and disarmament, Stephan Klement, visited the headquarters of the Arab League as part of ongoing cooperation between the two sides.
Klement and his delegation were received by Fadi Ashia, director of the league’s Disarmament and Arms Control Department. The talks focused on strengthening cooperation and reviewing developments related to disarmament and non-proliferation.
Discussions highlighted a joint project to combat the illicit trafficking and proliferation of small arms and light weapons in Arab League member states. The initiative is being implemented with partners including INTERPOL, the World Customs Organization, and the Small Arms Survey.
The project runs from 2019 to 2027 with a budget of €13 million.
