The European Union has concluded its military training endeavor in Mali, as announced by EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell.
The EU Training Mission in Mali (EUTM) aimed to enhance the capabilities of Malian armed forces through training and advisory support. Borrell stated that all EU personnel have been withdrawn from the African country.
Over the course of the mission, European military instructors successfully trained more than 20,000 Malian soldiers, contributing significantly to counterterrorism efforts in the region.
Despite the conclusion of the mission, Borrell emphasized that the EU remains open to collaboration with entities interested in partnering with European initiatives.
Reports from late March, notably from Spanish newspaper El Pais, indicated that EU member states did not reach a consensus to extend the training mission in Mali.
Consequently, this marks the conclusion of the EU's military presence in this strategically significant region.
