European Union Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica, commended Egypt's pivotal role in de-escalation efforts across the Middle East during a meeting with Mohamed Abu El-Enein, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PAUfM). She highlighted President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi's diplomatic initiatives as crucial in containing tensions and preventing escalation in the region, praising Egypt's constructive contributions to regional stability and Mediterranean cooperation.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Three Seas Initiative Parliamentary Summit in Zagreb. Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in education, training, and youth capacity-building, alongside exchanging views on regional and international developments.

Both sides stressed the importance of avoiding military escalation and prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions to safeguard security and stability.

Abu El-Enein affirmed Egypt's central role in promoting calm and stability amid the Iranian crisis and Palestinian developments. He pointed to Sisi's intensive diplomatic efforts, including shuttle visits to Gulf states, aimed at curbing conflict expansion.

He also welcomed the EU's positive steps to elevate relations with Egypt to a strategic partnership level, urging momentum to strengthen ties. Additionally, Abu El-Enein noted that numerous European parliamentarians at the Zagreb summit expressed interest in attending the PAUfM's General Assembly, scheduled for early July in Cairo, recognizing the assembly's key role in fostering parliamentary dialogue and cooperation across Mediterranean shores.
