The European Union (EU) said on Wednesday that it is closely monitoring recent developments in the Middle East following the assassination of the head of Hamas' political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran.
Peter Stano, the EU spokesperson for foreign affairs, stated: "The European Union has a principled stance of rejecting extrajudicial killings and supporting the rule of law and the work of the International Criminal Court.
He added, "We call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and prevent any further escalation. No country or nation will benefit from any additional escalation in the Middle East," according to the British newspaper, The Guardian.
