Angelina Eichhorst met with Damietta Governor Hossam El-Din Fawzy on Thursday to discuss expanding cooperation between the European Union and the Egyptian governorate across development, education, and investment sectors.
The meeting, held in Damietta, focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between the European Union and local authorities, with discussions covering technical education, economic development, tourism, and sustainable growth initiatives.
One of the key topics addressed was the establishment of applied technology schools in Damietta in cooperation with the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. The initiative aims to enhance technical and vocational training opportunities for young people and better align education with labor market demands.
Governor Hossam El-Din Fawzy highlighted Damietta’s economic strengths, pointing to its well-known furniture and industrial sectors as well as the tourism potential of Ras El Bar, one of Egypt’s prominent coastal destinations.
Fawzy said the governorate is looking forward to expanding joint cooperation with the European Union in ways that support economic activity, investment opportunities, and tourism development.
For her part, Ambassador Eichhorst reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with Egyptian governorates and supporting local development strategies aimed at achieving sustainable economic growth.
The discussions also explored ways to align European support programs with Egypt’s broader development agenda, particularly through local-level projects focused on infrastructure, innovation, and vocational education.
