Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Alexandria Library, joined Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou and Greek Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni for the grand reopening of the Cavafy Museum in Alexandria. This event, hosted by the Onassis Foundation, also included Ioannis Bergiakis, the Greek Consul General in Alexandria, and members of the local Greek community.

The museum is dedicated to Constantine Cavafy, one of the most significant Greek poets of the 20th century, who spent much of his life in Alexandria. The reopening highlighted the extensive renovations funded by the Onassis Foundation, which transformed Cavafy’s former residence into a modern space that celebrates his literary legacy.

Dr. Zayed praised the meticulous restoration work, noting that Cavafy's home is a valuable cultural and archaeological asset to Alexandria, often referred to as the Mediterranean's bride. He emphasized that the museum not only honors Cavafy’s contributions to poetry but also showcases the rich Greek-Egyptian cultural heritage in Alexandria.

Originally opened in 1992, thanks to efforts by historian and writer Kostis Moskof, the Cavafy Museum underwent this recent renovation to enhance its exhibits and accessibility. The celebratory reopening ceremony reflected the museum's importance as a cultural landmark and its role in deepening the historical ties between Greece and Egypt.
