EU Amb. Makes 1st Official Visit to Ismailia, Suez Canal

On her first official visit to Ismailia, Ambassador Angelina Eichhorst, Head of the European Union Delegation to Egypt, met with Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, to explore opportunities for cooperation and investment between the Authority, the EU, and its member states.

During the meeting, H.E. Eichhorst expressed her admiration for the Suez Canal, describing it as a vital artery of international trade and a cornerstone of Egypt’s past, present, and future. 

She commended the strategic projects currently underway in the canal zone, highlighting their alignment with the evolving demands of global commerce. The ambassador also hailed the Suez Canal Museum for its comprehensive portrayal of the waterway’s history.

Talks focused on deepening cooperation and identifying new investment prospects within the Suez Canal Economic Zone. Admiral Rabie emphasized Egypt’s commitment to developing maritime tourism, leveraging the canal’s unique geographic position.

He pointed to the Suez Canal Yacht Marina and the Suez Canal Museum as significant projects that reflect the state’s vision for promoting yacht tourism and cultural heritage.

H.E. Eichhorst’s visit to Ismailia includes a series of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening EU-Egypt collaboration in trade, transport, and sustainable development. The visit is being held in the presence of Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.

As part of the itinerary, Eichhorst is scheduled to meet with Ismailia Governor Major General Akram Jalal before embarking on a boat tour of the Suez Canal to review ongoing expansion and modernization efforts.

Later, the ambassador is expected to attend a signing ceremony between Egypt's government and representatives of Greek and Spanish companies, with the Prime Minister in attendance.

The event will also host ambassadors from Croatia, Cyprus, the Republic of Czech, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Sweden, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Romania, along with deputy ambassadors from Finland, France, Germany, and Spain.
