The European Union has announced an additional €35 million in humanitarian aid for countries in West Africa, bringing the EU's total assistance to the region to €160.6 million this year.

According to a press release from the European Commission, this funding is crucial for addressing the severe challenges faced by countries such as Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Mauritania, Nigeria, and the coastal states of the Gulf of Guinea.

These nations continue to grapple with widespread food insecurity, and displacement due to increasing political instability, ongoing conflicts, and escalating violence.

The newly allocated funds are aimed at meeting the urgent needs of the most vulnerable populations, particularly in the areas of food assistance, nutrition, healthcare, water, sanitation, shelter, and protection.

The EU has designated €10 million for humanitarian partners working in Burkina Faso, €8 million each for Mali and Niger, €1 million for Mauritania, €5 million for Nigeria, and €3 million for the Gulf of Guinea countries.
