On Tuesday, the Ethiopian Human Rights Committee said that a group of youths in Tigray region killed at least 600 civilians by stabbing, suffocating and beating them.
The committee confirmed that the massacre in the town of Mai Kadra took place with the assistance of the local forces.
A commission appointed by the Ethiopian government stated that the attack on November 9 was targeting residents who were not from Tigray.
Last Sunday, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed gave the leaders of the Tigray Liberation Front and its special forces 72 hours to surrender before the army enters the city of Mekele.
Earlier today, the Ethiopian government said that a large number of Tigray militants began surrendering to the defense forces in response to the government's call for extradition within 72 hours through the Afar region.
On Monday, Ethiopia confirmed that its forces are 50 km from Mekele, where the rebel commanders are.
The Ethiopian government considers the Liberation Front a rebellion movement after it challenged the central authorities and held local elections despite the parliament's decision to postpone polling in light of the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
