The Brazilian capital, Brasília, is hosting the BRICS Agricultural Working Group meeting from March 12 to 14, 2025, "TV BRICS" website reported.
According to Fana Media Corporation, a media partner of TV BRICS, an Ethiopian delegation presented the country’s experience in agricultural development, food security, and family farming support programs.
In this context, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Brazil, Lulseged Tadesse, emphasized that modernizing the agricultural sector and ensuring food security are top priorities for the Ethiopian government.
Moreover, he stated that Ethiopia continues to implement comprehensive agricultural development programs aimed at improving food security and nutrition. These include initiatives such as the National Wheat Harvest and the "Basket Abundance" program, which have already yielded tangible results.
The Ethiopian ambassador also highlighted the importance of strengthening agricultural cooperation within the BRICS framework to exchange best practices, facilitate technology transfer, build capacity, and attract investments.
Additionally, Ethiopia’s large-scale "Green Legacy" program, which aims to promote reforestation, enhance food security, and create green jobs, was also mentioned during the discussions.
Brazil's Minister of Agricultural Development and Family Farming, Paulo Teixeira, reaffirmed the importance of deepening agricultural cooperation within the BRICS platform.
Earlier, the BRICS Agricultural Working Group held its first meeting, where discussions focused on food security, sustainable agricultural production, trade, infrastructure development, and strategic agreements.
