As the cease-fire ended between PM Aiby Ahmed and the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), three Ethiopian regions reinforced the national army (ENDF) in its fight against the western front, officials said.
Three regions including, Sidama, Oromiya, the Southern Nations Nationalities, Peoples' (SNNPR) and the Amhara, said their forces had joined the army, after withdrawing from Tigray late last month.
A week ago, TPLF had recaptured most of the Tigray, yet, the west of the region was still heavily armed.
Reports say that fighting in Tigray could drive a new wave of refugees, adding to the 2 million who have already fled their homes during the fighting.
"We have already deployed our special forces, and they will join ENDF. "If needed we will deploy more," said Oromiya Region spokesperson Getachew Balcha.
Another official from the region's communications office said that around 350 special forces were sent this week. "I think they will be deployed on the western front," the official added.
