On Saturday, the Ethiopian authorities announced their plan to lay the foundation stone for a new dam, to store 55 million cubic meters of water.
The dam, due to be built in the Amhara region, will cost $125 million, Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation posted on "Facebook".
It will be 455 meters high and 371 meters long, as 7,000 hectares of land will be reclaimed.
The construction of the dam, which will be implemented by China Civil Engineering Corporation in cooperation with a number of local companies, is scheduled to be completed within 3 years.
