On Friday, the Ethiopian Federal Police Commission issued arrest warrants for 40 former and defected senior Ethiopian Air Force, defence forces and police officers, according to Sputnik News agency.

The police accused the suspects of coordinating the kidnapping of the National Defense Forces and members of the Federal Police last November 4.

This came in light of the ongoing armed conflict between the Ethiopian federal troops and the "Tigray People's Liberation Front" (TPLF).

Addis Ababa accuses some army and police officers of joining the TPLF.

Fighting between the national army and regional forces began a month ago, and since then, many people have been living with no electricity, running water, banking, or communications.

It is worth mentioning that, after weeks of clashes, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced last Monday, the end of military operations in the disputed Tigray region.

According to a statement issued by Abiy’s Office, “the mission is now focused on delivering humanitarian aid to the population.”

The Ethiopian statement added that the authorities bring the perpetrators to justice and restore law and order, pointing out that the Ethiopian government will work to secure humanitarian aid to the region’s citizens and resettle the displaced people.
