The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ethiopia, Ambassador Dina Mufti, accused Wednesday the Sudanese army of launching an attack using heavy weapons, machine guns, and armored vehicles since last November 9.

In press statements, Mufti said that the Sudanese attack resulted in "plundering the agricultural products of the Ethiopian farmers, and sabotaging their camps.”

“Ethiopian farmers are also prevented from harvesting their agricultural crops, and a number of civilians were killed and wounded," he added.

However, the spokesman noted that "The border tensions between Ethiopia and Sudan, which are fueled by foreign powers, will be resolved through diplomatic engagement between the two countries."

"Some parties work against the interests of the two states and the long-standing Ethiopian-Sudanese relations. These foreign powers have an interest in the hostility between us and Khartoum and with neighboring countries,” he claimed.

Mufti stressed that discussions with Sudan and diplomatic partnerships would continue, manifesting that “We hope to resolve the dispute and ensure normal life in the region."

The spokesman affirmed that his country insists on reactivating the existing mechanisms and finding an amicable solution, which are the only ways to find a permanent solution to the issues on the common borders, noting that the military operation and unnecessary escalation will only exacerbate the situation and create tension.
