Late Friday, huge explosions hit two cities in Ethiopia's Amhara state, which lies near the northern state of Tigray where federal troops are fighting local forces.

The blasts took place in Bahir Dar and Gondar cities, according to Reuters.

The communication's office in Amhara revealed that investigations have begun to determine whether the explosions were linked to the fighting in Tigray, without giving further details of any casualties.

It is worth mentioning that, last Thursday, the Ethiopian government said that rebellious troops of the Tigray People Liberation Front (TPLF) massacred hundreds of ethnic Amhara residents in Mycadra town in the western Tigray region.

In a statement, the federal government spokesman said that the TPLF special force and their aligned-militia committed the genocide after they lost control of Humera town and its airport to the advancing Ethiopian federal troops.

Some social media outlets put the number of causalities due to the conflict to over 500.

Disturbing images purportedly showing the bodies of victims have been trending on social media.

The alleged killing by TPLF militia has not been widely reported but leaders of the National Movement of Amhara said it may be out of hatred, despair or to instigate attacks on Tigreans outside the Tigray region.
