This morning, Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) forces claimed responsibility for destroying an airport in Axum town, after the Ethiopian Prime Minister (PM)  Abiy Ahmed gave them a three-day deadline to surrender, according to Reuters.

In a press statement, TPLF leader Debretsion Gebremichael said that the ultimatum is a cover for the government forces to regroup after what he described as defeats on three fronts.

On Sunday, Abiy gave Tigrayan regional forces 72 hours to surrender before the military begins an offensive on Mekelle.

It is worth mentioning that, yesterday Gebremichael, announced that the regional forces are standing firm against the Ethiopian government forces on the southern front, according to Reuters.

He added that his forces are clashing with those forces around the town of Adigrat in the north of the region.

Gebremichael is now leading the fight against Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government for control of the northern Tigray region, described as the “womb” of the nation.
