"Escape Room 2" Release Date Moved to July

"Escape Room 2" will now open on July 16 instead of the planned release date of Jan. 7, 2022.

The sequel to the 2019 psychological thriller will now open on the same date as Camila Cabello's musical "Cinderella".

The movie also debuts on the same date as "Space Jam 2" and the Sundance horror acquisition "The Night House". 20th Century Studios has an untitled movie scheduled on the same weekend as Escape Room 2.

The sequel is directed by Adam Robitel from a screenplay by Will Honley, Daniel Tuch, and Maria Melnik, the latter wrote the first movie. Story by Christine Lavaf, Fritz Bohm, and Will Honley.

The first movie follows six strangers that are given mysterious black boxes with tickets to an immersive escape room for a chance to win tons of money, but soon learn they are participating in a puzzle that could lead to life or death.

Though plot details for “Escape Room 2” have not been revealed, however, lead actors Taylor Russell and Logan Miller will also repeat their roles.

The second installment also features Indya Moore, Holland Roden, Isabelle Fuhrman, Carlito Olivero, Thomas Cocquerel, and James Frain.
