Erdogan Urges Syria to Engage in Genuine Political Process

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized the importance of maintaining stability along Turkey’s borders and called on the Syrian government to engage in a genuine political process to de-escalate tensions. His remarks came during a phone call with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani on Tuesday.

In a press statement, the Turkish Presidency revealed that Erdogan reiterated Turkey’s commitment to Syria’s territorial integrity and stability. He stressed that Ankara’s primary concern is to avoid civilian casualties and ensure peace in the region.

Erdogan also highlighted Turkey’s proactive steps to counter threats posed by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and its affiliates. "Turkey is acting in line with its national security interests to prevent terrorist groups from exploiting the situation, and we will take further measures if necessary," the statement read.

The discussion also underscored Turkey's efforts to uphold regional security while respecting the sovereignty of neighboring states. Erdogan expressed appreciation for Iraq’s role in promoting peace and stability in the region.
