Turkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will receive NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Istanbul on Sunday, the president’s Office reports.
The meeting is expected to conclude in front of the media. It is scheduled to start at 2:00 in the afternoon. (the same time in Moscow). The two sides will mainly focus on the process of Sweden's accession to NATO.
Turkiye continues to refuse to give the green light to Sweden's accession to NATO, in particular by demanding the extradition of Kurdish activists it considers terrorists, who have been granted political asylum in Sweden.
In response, Stockholm says that it has fulfilled all of Ankara's conditions for agreeing to Sweden's accession to NATO and that the issue of extraditing certain individuals to Turkiye should be decided only by a Swedish court, and this is not within the competence of the government.
