Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has praised recent moves by the European Union and the United States to lift sanctions on Syria, stating that restoring stability in the war-torn country would benefit its neighbours and the wider region.
In a televised address following a weekly cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdogan said:
"We are very pleased with the decision by European countries to lift sanctions on Syria, following the game-changing statements by U.S. President Donald Trump."
Erdogan emphasized that peace and stability in Syria would serve the interests of all neighbouring countries and regional powers, signalling a shift toward greater diplomatic and economic engagement.
He also revealed that Syrian Airlines is preparing to resume flights to Turkey, while Turkey’s AnadoluJet will soon launch scheduled flights to Syrian destinations.
The remarks come amid signs of increasing regional efforts to re-integrate Syria into the international fold after more than a decade of conflict and diplomatic isolation.
