Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan officially set the date for the parliamentary and presidential elections on May 14, a month earlier than previously scheduled, and signed the decision in a live televised ceremony today (Friday).

Erdogan said in a speech after signing the decision to hold the elections: "Our people will go to the polls to elect their president and deputies on May 14."

And the countdown begins after setting the date for the elections, which is the biggest test Erdogan will face in his 20-year rule. Middle.

And last Monday, the main opposition coalition in Turkey, which consists of six parties, announced that Kemal Kilicdaroglu, leader of the Republican People's Party, is the coalition's candidate to compete for the presidency against Erdogan.

Polls indicate that the chances will be close in the presidential and parliamentary elections, with the opposition bloc slightly ahead of the ruling coalition.

The bloc has vowed to reverse many of Erdogan's policies on the economy, civil rights, and foreign affairs, in what many see as the most important election in the century-old history of the Turkish republic.
