Equatorial Guinea's vice president, who is also his son, said on Twitter that his father, President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, had been re-elected after winning 95% of the vote in the November 20 elections and his party won all seats in both houses of parliament.

This victory will give Obiang, 80, a sixth term in office and extend his rule, which began 43 years ago, and cement his position as the longest-serving president in the world.

Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mango, Vice President, wrote on Twitter: "The end results prove that we are right again ... We are still proving that we are a great political party!"

Obiang's ruling Equatorial Guinea Democratic Party won the contested 55 Senate seats and 100 seats in the House of Representatives. The president's son said the president can now designate the remaining 15 Senate seats.

The West African oil-producing nation of 1.5 million people has had only two presidents since its independence from Spain in 1968. Obiang ousted his uncle Francisco Macias Nguema in a coup in 1979.
