Eni, and contractor members BP and Total have successfully drilled the first exploration well in the North El-Hammad license, in the conventional Egyptian waters of the Nile Delta "Bashrush".

The new discovery, which will be tested for production, is located at a depth of 22 meters from the water, 11 km from the coast, 12 km northwest of the Nooros field and about 1 km west of the southwestern Baltim field, both of which are already in production.

The well discovered is a 152-meter-thick gas column within the Mycenaean sandstones with excellent petrophysical properties.

Bashrush's discovery demonstrates the great potential of gas in this area and condensate for Messinian formations in this sector of shallow Egyptian waters.

Eni, with its BP and Total partners, in coordination with the Egyptian petroleum sector will begin examining the new discovery's options for production through the utilization of the region's existing infrastructure.

Parallel to the development activities associated with this new discovery, Eni will continue to explore the Greater Nooros region by drilling another exploratory well "Nidoco NW-1 DIR" in the Abu Madi west concession this year.

In North Hammad concession, ENI through its independent company IEOC in partnership with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) owns 37.5%, BP owns 37.5%, and Total owns 25% of the contractor interest.

Since 1954, Eni has been in Egypt, reaching a production capacity of  around 280,000 bpd "oil equivalent" in 2020.
