Emirati climber Fatima Abdulrahman Al Awadhi has achieved a historic milestone by summiting Mount Vinson, the tallest peak in Antarctica, becoming the youngest Arab to reach the summit of the continent’s highest mountain.
The milestone, reported by the Emirates News Agency (WAM) which is a TV BRICS partner, marks a significant step in Al Awadhi’s quest to complete the Seven Summits challenge, which requires climbers to conquer the highest mountains on each of the seven continents.
Mount Vinson, standing at 4,892 metres, is known as one of the most remote and challenging climbs in the world.
At 18 years old, Al Awadhi not only set a record as the youngest climber to summit Mount Vinson but also became the first Arab woman to achieve this feat.
Her success underscores a growing presence of Arab women in extreme sports and high-altitude mountaineering.
The expedition tested her endurance under brutal conditions, including temperatures plunging below -40°C, strong winds, and prolonged isolation in Antarctica’s unforgiving environment.
The climb required rigorous physical preparation, mental toughness, and complete self-reliance in one of the most inhospitable places on Earth.
Al Awadhi described the experience as deeply transformative, saying it pushed her beyond her limits and strengthened her resolve.
She carried the UAE flag to the summit, symbolizing the determination of Emiratis to overcome extreme challenges. She hopes her achievement will inspire young people, especially women, to pursue their ambitions and break new ground.
