EMGF to Come into Force Next March

The Foreign ministers of Greece, Cyprus, and Egypt announced on Friday that the East Mediterranean Gas Forum’s (EMGF) would come into force on 1st of March, 2021.

" Based on previous consultations and continuous coordination, to complete dialogue and cooperation in order to boost our political and economic commitment, discuss regional challenges and deliver a clear message that our region has the potential that makes it an oasis of peace, stability and prosperity.We have concluded that the results of this cooperation system are in the interest of our countries to enhance prosperity in the region, which laid the foundation for a positive agenda, and we have expressed our commitment to intensify coordination in order to explore joint cooperation opportunities," the ministers said in  a joint statement. 

"We welcome the advance preparations for the establishment of the Secretariat of the Tripartite Mechanism, based in Nicosia, which will begin in early spring 2021." they added.

"We also welcome the entry into force of the founding charter of the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum, starting from the first of March 2021, which establishes the forum as a regional organisation based in Cairo and open to all countries that share the same values ​​and goals and have the desire to cooperate for the security of the region as a whole and the prosperity of its people," the statement read.
