Egypt’s Ministry of Health has activated a comprehensive emergency health plan to receive wounded and injured Palestinians arriving from the Gaza Strip, including the deployment of between 250 and 300 ambulances nationwide

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, said the plan covers approximately 150 hospitals nationwide, with the capacity to expand in line with developments on the ground. He stressed that the initiative is being implemented under the direct directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

In a phone interview with Extra News, Abdel Ghaffar said the plan ensures the availability of comprehensive medical, surgical, and therapeutic services for all incoming cases. He added that around 60 ambulances have already been positioned in and around the Rafah crossing, while the remaining vehicles are distributed nationwide to support patient transfers.

The emergency response also relies on extensive medical staffing, including nearly 12,000 doctors across various specialties and more than 18,000 nurses. In addition, 30 rapid-response medical teams have been formed and can be deployed according to need.

Abdel Ghaffar noted that the Central Crisis Management Room at the Ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital is operating around the clock and is connected to 27 emergency operations rooms in health directorates nationwide.

He underscored the vital role of the Egyptian Red Crescent in supporting logistical efforts, facilitating the transport of patients and their companions, and coordinating reception procedures at the Rafah crossing, stressing that the primary objective is to provide full medical care without any delay.
