Al Ahly midfielder Emam Ashour apologized to the club and its fans, explaining that his poor health prevented him from traveling with the team to Tanzania for their match against Young Africans.
Ashour wrote on his Instagram account: "Unfortunately, a lot of misinformation and inaccuracies are circulating about what happened. I accept any decision the club makes, and I'm confident that the Al Ahly officials will understand my situation. I do have a severe cold, a high fever, and unusual stomach upset, and I'm taking antibiotics. Unfortunately, my whole family is suffering from the same symptoms. I informed Dr. Ahmed Gaballah of my health condition and my inability to travel. This is insufficient in such cases."
