The Egyptian Meteorological Authority has released details about the expected climate conditions during the winter of 2025 across Egypt.
Winter officially begins on Sunday, December 21, 2025, and will last for about three months.
According to the authority, winter weather is typically marked by a noticeable drop in temperatures, especially at night and in the early morning hours.
Low- and mid-level clouds are expected to increase most of the time, and conditions may sometimes favor the formation of dense morning mist, which could reach fog levels in parts of northern Egypt, Greater Cairo, and northern Upper Egypt.
The authority explained that when low-pressure systems form over the Mediterranean Sea, they can lead to unstable weather conditions.
These systems may bring rainfall of varying intensity, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms and hail, particularly along the northern coasts.
Rain may also extend to parts of Greater Cairo and northern Upper Egypt. In contrast, most areas in central and southern Upper Egypt are expected to remain dry, with very limited chances of rainfall.
At times, Egypt may also be affected by the extension of the Siberian high-pressure system, which can cause severe cold waves.
These cold spells may lead to frost formation on crops in some areas of central Sinai and northern Upper Egypt.
The authority added that seasonal forecasts indicate rainfall amounts and temperatures in parts of northern Egypt this winter are expected to be higher than the usual climate averages.
