France is ready to defend Finland and Sweden, both militarily and politically, against any aggression or threats, according to the Élysée Palace.
Recently, Sweden and Finland announced their decision to join NATO, despite warnings from Russian President Vladimir Putin to both countries.
In a statement, the Élysée palace added that Finland and Sweden NATO’s membership would enhance the security and stability of Europe and the Baltic Sea region.
It is worth mentioning that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stressed on Monday that NATO should be under no illusion that Russia would accept the membership of Sweden and Finland.
“We are conducting a comprehensive analysis of the situation. The situation has certainly changed radically in light of developments,” he told reporters, according to the Russian news agency “TASS”.
“All this (situation around NATO membership for Sweden and Finland) reflects a completely wrong and distorted perception of what is happening in the world,” Ryabkov added.
He also warned that “Brussels, Washington, and other NATO capitals should be under no illusions,” concluding that “this would be another huge mistake with far-reaching consequences.”
