Social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk, briefly went offline for thousands of users in the United States before service was restored on Sunday.

According to DownDetector.com, more than 19,000 users reported disruptions during an outage that lasted approximately 45 minutes, with full resolution recorded at 12:04 PM Eastern Time. X has not yet commented on the cause of the disruption.

DownDetector tracks outages by collecting user-reported incidents from multiple sources, though the actual number of affected users may vary.

The incident follows a week of unusually high internet traffic that temporarily affected access to platforms including X, Canva, ChatGPT, and Grindr.

This outage is the latest in a series of high-profile digital disruptions. In October 2025, a major Amazon Web Services outage caused widespread service interruptions for apps and websites such as Reddit, Roblox, and Snapchat. Earlier, a CrowdStrike software update triggered a global Microsoft system failure, impacting airlines, healthcare providers, shipping, and finance sectors.

As reliance on cloud infrastructure and digital platforms grows, even short interruptions underscore the vulnerability of online services to technical glitches and traffic surges.
