Elon Musk and Grimes secretly welcomed their second child together, a baby girl, via surrogate, Grimes told Vanity Fair on Thursday.
Vanity Fair's reporters revealed that they kept hearing a baby crying at Grimes’s house.
Asked if she has another child, Grimes initially responded: “I’m not at liberty to speak on these things. Whatever is going on with family stuff, I just feel like kids need to stay out of it, and [our son] X is just out there. I mean, I think E[lon] is really seeing him as a protégé and bringing him to everything and stuff.… X is out there. His situation is like that. But, yeah, I don’t know.”
Eventually, Grimes confirmed that the baby crying was their new daughter. Grimes shared her nickname: Y, adding that she was born in December 2021. Her full name, currently, is Exa Dark Sideræl.
Grimes affirmed that she and Musk had always wanted at least three or four children.
The couple went for a surrogate due to Grimes' fears of serious pregnancy complications after having trouble with her first pregnancy with X.
“I took a few steps and collapsed. It was kind of scary, because you don’t want to fall a lot when you’re eight months pregnant. So I would just crawl to the bathroom and crawl back or whatever.” She noted, adding that she was dying at one point while expecting him: “Like, I hemorrhaged. It was scary.”
Last September, the couple media outlets reported that the couple split up after three years of dating.
“We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently and are on great terms,” Musk told Page Six. “It’s mostly that my work at SpaceX and Tesla requires me to be primarily in Texas or traveling overseas and her work is primarily in LA. She’s staying with me now and Baby X is in the adjacent room.”
