A one-minute video ignited social sites.. The video features a 5-year-old child who got stuck between the iron safety door and the wooden elevator door. Everyone felt sadness, terror, anger and sympathy with the child and his family, but fortunately, it turned out that this incident occured 2 years ago in Mumbai, India.
What if this video was in Egypt.. Certainly it would have been more disturbing .. But this video and what it caused on the social media sites raises the alarm and raises a question.. What to do if the elevator stopped suddenly.. What are the preventive measures that keep children away from elevators? What are the instructions that we must put on all elevators? What are the maintenance measures?
There must be preemptive steps ahead of what might happen.
What should you do if the elevator stopped for any reason? There are a number of procedures and tips that must be followed, the first of which is to maintain calm and avoid stress.
Search for the alarm button or us the elevator panel to inform the building maintenance supervisor that there is a person stuck in the elevator.
Use the emergency phone when there is no alarm button to ask for help
Knocking elevator doors and making noise or shouting loudly in case that there is no response to the alarm button, emergency phone or mobile phone to attract the attention of anyone outside to save the person inside the elevators.
Do not try to open the doors or go up the elevators. Important tips that must be followed, the Ministry of Electricity has announced schedules for cutting off electricity for each area and asked citizens not to use elevators 10 minutes before the time of cutting off electricity.
Although the social media sites circulated the video as if it happened recently in Egypt due to the power outage and the danger of using elevators these days, but it is good that we pay attention to the periodic maintenance of elevators.
It is important to have a certificate of every elevator in the buildings with a maintenance schedule, instructions of use, and how to act in case of a breakdown of the elevator or a power outage.
The occupants’ union must provide the evidence of periodic maintenance work and the validity of the elevators. The neighborhood supervisors must follow up and, in turn, check and verify the information by checking the buildings and following up on the maintenance work, and holding those who leave the elevators without maintenance accountable by imposing a fine.
May God protect Egypt and its people and protect our children from the evil of accidents and dangers.
