On Tuesday, Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker met with Singaporean Ambassador to Egypt Dominic Goh to discuss investment opportunities and mutual cooperation in the field of renewable energy.
During their meeting, Shaker praised relations between Egypt and Singaporean, which he hoped to be strengthened further.
The minister also expressed Egypt’s desire to take part in the Singapore International Energy Week conference (SIEW). Thus Egypt's participation can be expected in future.
Shaker revealed that Egypt’s government has worked hard with its global development partners to overcome some obstacles in the electricity sector.
"In accordance with Egypt’s vision 2030, we have been adopting a large-scale programme to utilize and enhance natural resources, including new and renewable, as well as increasing renewable energy’s share in the electricity system," Shaker said.
"We aim to increase the share of renewable energy in the nationwide electricity network to 20% by 2022 and 42% by 2035, elevating it from 5% in 2014," Shaker added.
On the other hand, the ambassador appreciated Egypt’s experience in developing its renewable energy sector.
The arrangements for an official visit by Shaker to Singapore took place following discussions between the Egyptian and Singaporean sides.
