El Gouna Film Festival to Kick off Tonight

El Gouna Film Festival 3rd edition rolls out the red carpet for its opening tonight at El Gouna Resort-town in Red Sea governorate, amid the attendance of public figures, Egyptian, Arab, and global stars.

Stars and public figures have begun to make their way to the resort town to prepare for the opening ceremony, they include Abdel Rahman Abou Zahra, Elham Sahien, Ahmed El Fishawy and his wife Nada Kamal, Mohamed Ramadan, Rogena and her husband, actor and head of the Theatrical Professions Syndicate Ashraf Zaki, popular television host Poussy Chalabi, Naglaa Badr, and others.

The festival will run until September 27 at El Gouna Resort-town in Red Sea governorate.

Moreover, American actor and movie producer Brad Pitt’s film “Ad Astra’’ is set to be screened at the opening night.

Over the past editions, the festival revealed the global stars that were attending the festival, but this year they seem that they are keeping quiet about it, however, it did announce that Egyptian-Canadian actor, Mena Massoud will attend the festival.

Where to Stream and Watch?

The festival, which will be presented by TV presenters Sherif Nour El Din, and Bassel Alzaro, will be broadcast on “On E” satellite channel at 6:00 pm (Cairo local time), and live-streamed on Facebook.

Ihsan Abdel Quddous

The festival will hold a retrospective exhibition to commemorate the centennial of one of Egypt’s most influential figures in the literature field, veteran writer and novelist, Ihsan Abdel Quddous.

Honorees

Egyptian comedian-actor, Mohamed Henedy will receive the Creative Achievement Award in recognition for his outstanding career, as well as Palestinian director, Mai Masri.

Jury

The festival’s Feature Narrative Competition jury will include iconic Egyptian film director Khairy Beshara for president, award-winning director and producer Mai Masri, Nashen Moodley, Resul Pookutty, and Stas Tyrkin.

The Feature Documentary Competition jury will be headed by acclaimed Senegalese director, producer, screenwriter and actor Moussa Touré, and consists of award-winning director and producer Anne Aghion, Ludmila Cvikova, Talal Derki, and Nahed Nasrallah.

Meanwhile, the Short Film Competition jury is headed by prominent Egyptian director Marwan Hamed and includes  Tunisian star Dorra Zarrouk, Colombian-Belgian film director and cinematographer Juanita Onzaga, Jukka-Pekka Laakso, and Iraqi director, producer, and screenwriter Mohamed Daradji.

Films

This year, 83 films will be screened, which includes 51 competing in the three official competitions, three official competitions (Feature Narrative Competition, Feature Documentary Competition, and Short Film Competition), which totals 224,000 USD.

Noteworthy, the festival was established on September 22, 2017, to underscore the role cinema plays in promoting cultural interaction and to highlight the awareness of different cinematic voices through encouraging dialogue and by building bridges of creative intellect.
