Agence France-Presse (AFP) quoted the Paris city council as saying that the lights of the Eiffel Tower would be turned off at 11 pm (2100 GMT) on Saturday in solidarity with the victims of the Morocco earthquake.

Morocco's Interior Ministry said on Saturday that 1,037 were killed and 1,204 injured in the quake, which the USGS measured at 6.8 and centered about 72 km southwest of Marrakesh.

The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.0 on the Richter scale, resulted in the destruction of buildings and forced residents of major cities to evacuate their homes, as reported by Reuters.

The Moroccan Ministry of Interior identified the earthquake's epicenter in the Al Haouz region, southwest of Marrakech.
