Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Friday with Massad Boulos to discuss rapidly evolving regional developments, as part of ongoing coordination between Egypt and the United States.
The conversation comes amid continued military escalation across the region, with Abdelatty stressing the urgent need for intensified international and regional efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent a broader conflict. He warned of severe economic repercussions stemming from ongoing hostilities, including disruptions to global supply chains, international shipping routes, and rising prices of oil, food, and fertilizers, factors impacting both Egypt’s economy and the global market.
On Sudan, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm rejection of any attempts to undermine the country’s unity or territorial integrity. He emphasized the importance of reaching a humanitarian ceasefire, preserving state sovereignty, and supporting national institutions. The minister also called for enhanced international efforts to facilitate humanitarian aid delivery across all regions, while rejecting any equivalence between state institutions and armed militias.
Regarding Libya, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s consistent position supporting the country’s unity and stability. He underlined the need to unify Libyan institutions and push forward a comprehensive Libyan-led political process. This includes holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible to meet the aspirations of the Libyan people.
On Lebanon, Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s rejection of any violations of Lebanese sovereignty and territorial integrity. He called for the full and non-selective implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, alongside an end to Israeli violations. Egypt also expressed support for Lebanese state efforts to assert full authority and control over all its territory.
On his part, Boulos praised Egypt’s role in promoting regional security and stability, highlighting its continued efforts to contain crises and advance political solutions. He emphasized the importance of sustained coordination between Cairo and Washington in the coming period.
