Egypt’s historic qualification for the Round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup has sparked celebrations far beyond its borders, turning the Pharaohs’ achievement into a moment of shared Arab pride.

The joy was not limited to Egyptian fans at home. Across several Arab countries, supporters celebrated Egypt’s dramatic victory over Australia on penalties and its first-ever qualification for the knockout stages of the World Cup.

Streets, public squares and social media platforms across the region were filled with messages of support, pride and hope, as millions of Arab fans viewed Egypt’s success as an achievement for the wider Arab world.

In Gaza, celebrations came despite the severe humanitarian conditions facing the population. Many Palestinians followed the match closely before social media platforms were flooded with congratulations and messages praising the Egyptian national team.

Videos and photos shared online showed moments of celebration, while users described Egypt’s qualification as a rare moment of happiness in the middle of an extremely difficult reality.

The Egyptian national team enjoys strong support in Gaza, especially because of the popularity of captain Mohamed Salah, who is seen by many young Palestinians as a symbol of success, determination and resilience.

Comments by Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan also received wide attention after he dedicated the victory to the Palestinian people. His words were met with appreciation and warm responses from many followers in Gaza and across the Arab world.

In Libya, Tripoli and Benghazi witnessed an exceptional night of celebration after Egypt’s qualification was confirmed. Large numbers of citizens took to the streets to mark the achievement.

Fireworks lit up the skies of several Libyan cities, while car convoys moved through the streets carrying Egyptian and Libyan flags together. The scenes reflected the historic ties and strong bonds of brotherhood between the two peoples.

Hundreds also gathered in Martyrs’ Square in Tripoli, chanting in support of the Egyptian team and singing in a festive atmosphere that mixed sporting joy with feelings of solidarity and affection.

In Kuwait, public squares and shopping centres that had set up large screens to broadcast the match attracted large crowds of Kuwaiti citizens and members of the Egyptian community.

As soon as the match ended and Egypt’s qualification was announced, gathering areas turned into scenes of celebration. Supporters exchanged congratulations, chanted for the Egyptian team and expressed pride in the Pharaohs’ performance.

Celebrations also extended to traditional Kuwaiti gatherings, where many attendees said Egypt’s achievement was a source of pride for all Arab fans. They wished the team continued success in the next stages of the tournament.

In Saudi Arabia, major cities also witnessed wide celebrations after the final whistle. Cafés and public viewing areas were packed with fans who celebrated Egypt’s historic passage to the knockout stage.

Saudi and Egyptian supporters embraced in scenes that reflected the strength of relations between the two peoples. Car convoys also took to the streets, sounding their horns in celebration, while Saudi and Egyptian flags were raised side by side.

Several Saudi fans said Egypt’s qualification was an achievement for all Arabs, adding that their support for the Pharaohs would continue throughout the rest of their World Cup campaign.

The celebrations across the Arab world were not simply a reaction to a football victory. They reflected a wider sense of unity around an Arab team that had made history on the world’s biggest football stage.

At a time when Arab fans are eager to see one of their national teams compete among the world’s strongest sides, Egypt’s qualification for the Round of 16 revived feelings of pride, hope and shared belonging.

The achievement also showed how sport can unite people, create exceptional moments and bring joy that goes far beyond the boundaries of the pitch.

With Egypt now preparing for its highly anticipated match against Argentina, hopes across the Arab world are rising once again.
